How the site works
What is OverEngineeredVTT?
OverEngineeredVTT (OEV) is a marketplace for premium Foundry VTT modules and expansions. Independent creators sell their modules here; you buy them once and receive a permanent license to use them in your Foundry VTT installation.
Do I need a Foundry VTT licence to use modules from OEV?
Yes. OEV modules are add-ons for Foundry Virtual Tabletop. You must own a valid Foundry VTT licence and have it installed to use any module purchased here.
Do I need an OEV account?
Yes. An account is required to purchase modules and to access your licenses. You can sign up for free on the account page using your email address, Google, or Discord.
Purchases
How do I buy a module?
Browse the store, open a module's page, and click Buy. You'll be taken to a secure Stripe checkout page where you can pay by card. Once payment is confirmed you'll receive a purchase receipt by email and your license will appear in your account immediately.
What payment methods are accepted?
All major credit and debit cards are accepted via Stripe. OEV never stores your card details — all payment handling is done directly by Stripe.
Is a purchase a subscription or a one-time payment?
All purchases are one-time, perpetual licenses. You pay once and keep access to that module, including all bug fixes and updates to that edition, at no extra charge.
There is one important nuance: when Foundry VTT releases a new major version (e.g. v14 → v15), a creator may choose to release a new edition of their module built specifically for that major version. That new edition is treated as a separate product and may require a new license purchase. Your existing license covers the edition you originally purchased and any updates to it — it is not automatically upgraded to a new major-version edition.
If a new major-version edition is released for a module you own, you will receive an email notification along with a one-time 50% discount code valid towards that new edition. Your existing license and access to the older edition remain unaffected.
Example: you purchase Group Treasury (for Foundry v14). When the creator later releases Group Treasury (for Foundry v15), you keep your v14 license and receive a 50% discount code for the v15 edition.
Can I buy a module as a gift?
Gift purchases are not yet available via the store. If you'd like to gift a module to another user, contact us and we can arrange it manually.
Licenses
What is a license?
Each purchase generates a unique license tied to your account. The license is what authorises your copy of Foundry VTT to download and receive updates for a module. It's stored in your OEV account and referenced automatically when Foundry fetches the module manifest.
Where do I find my licenses?
Go to your account page and scroll to the My Licenses section. Each entry shows the module name, purchase date, and a download or install link.
How do I install a module I've purchased?
- Sign in to your OEV account and go to My Licenses.
- Click Copy install link next to the module.
- In Foundry VTT, open Add-on Modules → Install Module.
- Paste the manifest URL into the Manifest URL field and click Install.
Foundry will download the module directly. Future updates can be applied from the Manage Modules screen the same way you update any other Foundry module.
Can I use my license on multiple worlds or servers?
Yes. A license covers your personal use across any number of Foundry installations or worlds you run. It is not transferable to other users.
What happens if a creator removes their module or leaves the platform?
If a creator removes a module or closes their account, the product is removed from the storefront and no new licenses are sold. However, existing license holders always retain download access to the releases they are entitled to. You will receive an email notification when a module you've purchased is affected. The module will be marked as Abandoned and remain visible and downloadable from your account page.
What do the module status labels mean?
- Stable — actively developed; the creator is shipping new features and updates.
- Maintained — bug fixes and compatibility patches only; no new features planned, but the module is kept working.
- Archived — the creator has stopped active work. The module is frozen at its last release, remains fully downloadable, but will not receive further updates.
- Abandoned — the creator has left the platform. The product is removed from the storefront but remains accessible to all existing license holders from their account page.
Your license always entitles you to install and use all stable, maintained, and archived releases of a module — not just the latest one. You can access older releases from your My Licenses page if you need to run an earlier version of Foundry VTT.
Refunds
What is the refund policy?
Refunds are available within 48 hours of purchase, provided you have not downloaded the module zip. To request a refund, email [email protected] with your order details.
What if the 48-hour window has passed?
We review refund requests on a case-by-case basis. If a module was significantly misrepresented, broken, or removed by the creator, we will consider a refund regardless of the time elapsed. Please reach out even if you're outside the standard window.
What if I was charged but never received my license?
This can happen if there was a network issue after checkout. Email [email protected] with your Stripe receipt or payment confirmation and we'll manually issue your license promptly.
Complaints & disputes
How do I report a problem with a module?
Email [email protected] describing the issue. Include the module name, your Foundry VTT version, and a description of the problem. We will investigate and follow up with the creator on your behalf if necessary.
How do I dispute a charge?
Please contact us at [email protected] before filing a chargeback with your bank. We can usually resolve billing issues faster than the bank dispute process, and chargebacks may result in your account being suspended.
How do I report a creator for policy violations?
Email [email protected] with a description of the violation and any supporting evidence. All reports are reviewed by the OEV team.
Accounts
How do I create an account?
Go to the account page and sign up with your email address, or use the Continue with Google or Continue with Discord buttons for one-click registration.
I forgot my password — how do I reset it?
On the account page, click Forgot password? and enter your email. You'll receive a reset link within a few minutes. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
How do I delete my account?
Email [email protected] with a deletion request. We'll confirm your identity and process the deletion within 7 business days. Active licenses are non-transferable and will be revoked on deletion.
Becoming a creator
How do I sell my own modules on OEV?
Apply for a creator account on the creator application page. Tell us about yourself and the modules you plan to publish. Applications are reviewed by the OEV team and you'll hear back by email within a few days.
Is there a cost to become a creator?
There is no upfront fee. OEV takes a 20% platform fee on each sale; you keep 80%. Payouts are processed via Stripe Connect.
I'm a creator — where's my creator dashboard?
Once your application is approved, a Creator link will appear in the navigation. You can also go directly to oevtt.com/creator.
